Sunday Parkways highlights Portland as a walkable and bikeable city. North Portland is an ideal place to start connecting neighborhoods by bringing people together with healthy activities. Health, transportation, recreation, community, environmental, and safety interests all benefit by partnering to implement Sunday Parkways.
The event followed the international Toward Carfree Cities conference which Portland hosted June 16 – 20.
Sunday Parkways also supported Portland’s successful effort to become the first large American city to achieve Platinum status from the League of American Bicyclists .
Every Sunday, some 70 miles of the city’s roads are closed to vehicle traffic and turned over to its citizens, who come out in droves to walk, jog, skate and especially bike.
