A new way to reduce traffic
A new study reveals that Europe has success with another tool designed to remove people from their cars: subtracting parking spaces. Because every vehicle trip must end in a parking space, limiting parking through economic and policy changes has significantly reduced miles driven in 10 European cities, according to “Europe’s Parking U-Turn: from Accommodation to Regulation,” published by the New York City-based Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP).
Cost of natural disaster
Natural disasters caused $109 billion in economic damage last year, three times more than in 2009, with Chile and China bearing most of the cost, the United Nations said Monday.

China leapfrogs U.S. wind power industry
For the first time ever, the Asian giant’s capacity –- the amount of electricity that can be generated using wind –- blew past the U.S. to soar 62% to 41,800 megawatts. American-based turbines can produce up to 40,180 megawatts, a 15% jump from the beginning of 2010, according to a report from the American Wind Energy Assn.
Oil spill destroying mangrove
Collision between 2 oil tankers in last August at Mumbai resulted in an oil spill which is killing mangroves. Study was done by Bombay Natural History Society.
