The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has put one lakh Aadhaar cards in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the ‘inactive’ or ‘suspended animation’ list over false biometrics, attempts to enrol for a second time and mixing of applicant biometrics with those of their relatives or staff at Aadhaar centres.
The UIDAI has also decided to suspend the cards of children who failed to update their biometric details on crossing five and 15 years of age. “These are two separate issues. Currently, we are only suspending Aadhaar cards over mix-up of biometrics. In future, Aadhaar cards of children of five years and 15 years will be suspended if they don’t update it,” a UIDAI official said.
