In thousands of events taking place from September 20th through 27th, millions of us will walk out of our classrooms, workplaces and homes to join together in the streets and demand climate action and climate justice. Currently 185 countries have registered strikes, which leaves only ten countries to still get involved in the #FridaysForFuture movement.
Each day cities register new strikes and the numbers are rocketing. We currently stand at 2350 registered cities whereas on the morning of March 15 we had 1800, only to subsequently discover that there had been an additional 500 strikes that hadn’t been registered.
All events from September 20th through 27th will be counted as a single initiative.
There are countless signs that this round of #GlobalClimateStrikes will be the largest in history, far larger than the already staggering turnout on March 15 of 2.3 million demonstrators around the world.
We’re calling for massive participation on the part of adults, alongside young people. Together we will demand urgent and decisive action to face the climate crisis and to find a safe pathway to stay within 1.5 C increase in global temperature, in order to safeguard all that supports life on earth.
The week’s crescendo of events will bracket the UN Climate Action Summit taking place in New York on September 23rd.
