Tamil Nadu’s garment workers ‘modern-day slaves’

A report released on Tuesday by the Amsterdam-based Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO) and the India Committee of the Netherlands (ICN) has revealed that workers in Tamil Nadu’s textile mills work under appalling conditions, almost equivalent to modern-day slavery. The report, titled ‘Flawed Fabrics’, details the condition of workers in five Tamil Nadu spinning mills. Two mills that were supplying products to Bangladesh garment factories and fell under the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety.
