Following a four-year legal battle in Israeli military courts, Palestinian activist Issa Amro has been convicted on six counts related to his activism in the occupied West Bank, including in his hometown of Hebron. Issa Amro should be free. We stand in solidarity with Palestinians resisting Israeli apartheid. The international community must speak out against Israel’s intimidation and imprisoning of human rights defenders. As Amnesty International reports, the charges against him are “baseless” and “politically motivated.” In the past 50 years of Israeli occupation, an estimated 800,000 Palestinians have been detained by Israeli security forces – constituting approximately 20% of the total Palestinian population.
