The Indian rupee depreciated 9 paise to end at its record closing low against the US dollar on Thursday weighed down by a weakness in other Asian currencies and a rise in US Treasury yields. The local unit ended at 83.21 a dollar as compared to its previous close of 83.13. The US dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose by 0.09% to 104.95, while the 10-year US treasury yield was at 4.27%. On Wednesday, the rupee closed at 83.13. The local unit hit a record low of 83.29 in October last year.
