Supplying fuel to the controversy over the large-scale deletion of voters in Telangana, Data Security researchers alleged that Aadhaar seeding with voter ID cards that was done in Hyderabad as a pilot project by the election authorities has led to the deletion of votes. ECI authorities stated that the seeding was done before the Supreme Court order in 2015 and it was stopped after SCs order. Recently purification of electoral rolls was done using software that detects demographically similar details which are not connected to Aadhaar.
Data Security Researcher Srinivas Kodali told TOI, “The presentation of IAS official A Babu, on Aadhaar seeding with Voter ID, available in public domain reveal that the project was initially taken up a pilot. Later the large-scale deletions in Telangana from 2015 February to 2015 August were based on this methodology. Supreme Court has ruled against linking Aadhaar with voter IDs of citizens,” The then Office of Chief Electoral officer of AP and Telangana in 2015 in July 2 wrote a letter to Director (IT) of ECI in which it said, “UIDAI has been addressed to extend the facility of giving DSDV(Destination-Sequenced Distance-Vector Routing) tool to the Registrar IT of Government of AP to link the Aadhar of non consent data,” CEO asked ECI to purse with UIDAI for giving DSDV tool so that Adhaar-EPIC linking in both the State of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would be ‘fully completed at earliest.”
