The largest High-Concentration Photovoltaic (HCPV) in Asia inaugurated in southern Taiwan. The pilot program is expected to save up to 700 tons of carbon emission per year, officials said.
Established by the Institute of Nuclear Energy Research, the plant sits on a two-hectare [1 hectare=2.47 acre] land located in Lujhu Township, Kaohsiung County. This is the second largest solar power plant in the world after Spain. With 141 solar panels, the plant capacity produces up to 100 megawatt of energy annually.
The power plant utilizes solar tracker which concentrate solar lens or reflectors towards the sun and makes the light concentrates on smaller cell chips, official said.
