Kansai Electric Power Co (9503.T), Japan’s second-largest utility, said on Friday it would manually shut down the 500-megawatt No.2 reactor at its Mihama nuclear plant in western Japan later in the day due to a water leak.
A company spokesman said the it does not know the duration of the shutdown pending an investigation into dripping water inside a nuclear reactor containment vessel.
There was no danger from radioactivity outside the facility, Kansai said. (Reporting by James Topham and Osamu Tsukimori)
