Wind farm at Ramakkalmedu

[During 1974 some experts pointed out that kerala should find sources of energy other than hydro electric power. But KSEB and government were not interested in that. But now things are changing]
Work has been started to build 6 wind turbine with 4 mega watt capcity at Ramakkalmed which is going to complete in one month. 125,000 unit excess electricity can be produced once it gets completed. Inaddition to this approval for the third stage of capacity 100 megawatt is also given. In third stage 125 wind turbine is going to be installed. The 14 turbines, which are part of the first stage, are working perfectly. From this 12 mega watt electricity is producing. Installation and electricity generation are faster in wind turbine compared to other mode of electricity generation. 14 turbines of the first stage was installed in 100 days. The manufacturing cost of single turbine is 45 million ruppies. Turbines are from Vestas Technologies. From 18,000 to 20,000 units can be generaged from a single turbine depending upon the wind condition. 2.2 to 2.6 million units per year.Using a double feeder line this electricity is transimitted to Nedumkantam sub station. State electricity board is buying electricity at rate of 3.16 ruppies from the wind farm.
