Here is the rules for eating by Michael Pollan
- Don’t eat anything your great grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.
- Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients, or ingredients you can’t pronounce.
- Shop around the edges of the supermarket. Real food has a shorter shelf life and is usually placed on the outer edge of the shop where it can be replaced more easily.
- Always leave the table a little hungry – ‘tie off the sack before it’s full’, as they say in Germany.
- Don’t eat alone.
- Only eat food cooked by humans.
- It’s not food if it has the same name in all languages (like a Big Mac), or if it arrived through the window of your car.
- A healthy plate of food will likely feature several different colours.
- Eat when you’re hungry, not when you’re bored.
- Avoid foods that are labelled ‘low-fat’ – just eat the real thing in moderation.
