News Outlets Initially Blamed Norway Attacks on Muslim Militants
Numerous news outlets and commentators initially blamed the Norway attack on Islamic militants. Rupert Murdoch’s British newspaper, The Sun, ran a front-page headline titled, “Al Qaeda’s Massacre, Norway’s 9/11.” On the Washington Post’s website, Jennifer Rubin wrote, “This is a sobering reminder for those who think it’s too expensive to wage a war against jihadists.” The Wall Street Journal also initially blamed “jidhadists” reporting that, “Norway is targeted for being true to Western norms.”
Corporate Earnings Soar as Social Services Face Funding Cuts
While lawmakers are threatening to cut funding for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in discussions about the federal deficit plan, corporate profits continue to rise. Caterpillar’s second-quarter earnings shot up 44 percent to $1 billion. General Electric’s second-quarter earnings were up 21 percent to $3.75 billion. And McDonald’s quarterly earnings increased 15 percent to $1.4 billion.
1.16MW Solar power plant started operating in UK
Lightsource Renewable Energy and Octopus Investments have now completed what is thought to be the largest solar rooftop in the UK. At 1.65MW the project, installed at the Promens warehouse in Beccles, Suffolk, trumps the previous 1.16MW record. Developed by Lightsource and constructed by Grupotec, the solar installation was financed by hundreds of investors throughout the UK.
REC supplied 7,000, 235Wp multicrystalline solar panels for the project, with Danfoss 15kW inverters additionally utilised. The modules, at 65.5in x 39in x 1.49in, are said to hold 14.2% efficiency and will support the Promens warehouse to the point where 100% of the power-generated will be used on site.
